RFID Solutions
Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a generic term for technologies that use radio waves to automatically identify people, animals, products, or objects. This automatic identification method is carried out by storing and remotely retrieving information using devices called RFID tags or transponders. A serialized number, identifying a person or other object, as well as other related information, is stored on a microchip attached to an antenna (the chip and the antenna together are called a RFID transponder or a RFID tag). The antenna enables the chip to transmit the identification information to a reader. The reader converts the radio waves reflected back from the RFID tag into digital information that is then passed on to computer systems for further use.
RFID Benefits:Making Sense of It
For Small- To Mid-Size Organizations
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is positioned to make a major impact on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of your organization’s internal business processes as well as improving visibility into your supply chain. Your organization can expect to obtain a return on investment by utilizing RFID in practical business applications.
Tracking valuable assets or equipment including maintenance of these items are great examples of adding value to your organization through the use of RFID. In addition, from a supply chain perspective, when integrated with business processes and applications, RFID is set to transform the way manufacturers and retailers plan demand, manage inventory, manage distribution and supply chain partners, and market to consumers in the store.
However, even with all these benefits, RFID also has many executive management teams unsure of exactly how this technology can be utilized to benefit the way their organizations do business. With all the hype, it is easy to forget that after all, RFID is simply a technology that still needs practical, real-world applications to make it a worthwhile investment for your organization.
